Helen M. Curtis is a graduate of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas, Pepperdine University in Malibu California (formerly in Los Angeles, California), and the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In addition to her undergraduate and graduate degrees, she holds certifications in teaching, vocational education and administrative/mid-management.
Professionally, she has been a teacher at the middle school level, high school level, junior college and senior college levels. Helen served as a public school administrator for 20 years, eighteen of those years as a principal in middle and high schools. After retirement, she continues to interact with organizations that benefit young people. Helen works part time as the Program Evaluator for AB Christian Learning Center, a nonprofit educational organization focusing on closing the achievement gap, decreasing the dropout rate and helping students prepare for and enroll in college.
Helen is affiliated with several service organizations. She is active in the Fort Worth Retired School Educators Association and a volunteer with the Money Management Program for Guardianship Services Incorporated. Helen serves on the board of Trustees for Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, TX. and is its Secretary.
She is the recipient of several honors and awards. Her most recent recognitions are: Community Involvement Award from the Stop Six Church of Christ; induction into the Southwestern Christian College Hall of Fame; recipient of the Alumnus of the Year Award, The Golden Ram award, recipient of the coveted “Strong Woman” award from Girls Inc. of Tarrant County, recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award from Guardianship Services and the President’s Award from Guardianship Services. Helen was also awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Southwestern Christian College in 2011.
Helen is an active member of the Stop Six Church of Christ where she has attended for 52 years. She is Coordinator for the Special Programs Ministry and the Women’s Fellowship Ministry. She also serves as the church’s secretary.
Helen enjoys attending and participating on Ladies Day Programs where she gains strength and knowledge from other sisters. One of her favorite scriptures is Matthew 7:7, 8. “Ask and God will give to you. Search and you will find. Knock and the door will open for you. Yes everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find, and everyone who knocks will have the door opened.” New Century Version
